About the Institute of Space Technology:
Numerous technological developments over the past century have led to a slow but steady improvement in civilization. The field of space science has played a pivotal role in driving this progress and has transformed the progression process.
In light of this, the decision was made in 2002 to open a school that would provide specialized instruction in space and associated sciences to raise our country’s standing in the world. Consequently, the Institute of Space Technology was founded in September 2002 and its primary undergraduate programs are Aerospace Engineering and Communication Systems Engineering.
The institute started a graduate program in communication engineering and an undergraduate program in materials science and engineering in the fall of 2008. Rather than continuing with its current Communication Systems Engineering undergraduate program, the institute will be adding an extra Electrical Engineering undergraduate program starting in the fall of 2011. In addition to these domestic programs, the institute offers linked master’s degrees in over a dozen fields through partnerships with Beihang University (BUAA), Northern Polytechnic University (NPU), China, and the University of Surrey (UniS), UK. The Higher Education Commission has approved and the Pakistan Engineering Council has accredited the undergraduate programs that IST offers.
